A Story by Jennifer Nnamani
Style on a dime can be a challenge especially when there aren’t affordable choices. Through thrifting and the oddly and/or less than quality clothing found in bargain stores/dollar stores, there’s some hope. As a young child living in Nigeria, I looked forward to my mother’s fresh finds from the bustling second hand shops, and the custom/tailored garments for special occasions.
For this story, I experimented with bold patterns and florals paired with some of my personal items. The goal was to incorporate at least one item from the bargain stores.
Photographed by Dayton, Ohio native, James Drakeford and set in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, the Dollar General fashion story came alive off busy Broadway streets and aims to explore the intersection of individuality and creativity.
